I don’t know where to start- I love this series. It is such a tragedy Mr. Larsson passed before he was able to see his goal through. Spectacular storytelling in the sense that he builds a web and makes sure you feel the repercussions of one corner far off in another corner, all the way throughout the series. It’s like playing a choose your own adventure or something. Lispeth is, as I’m sure many before me would agree, so f*cking compelling. You want to root for her, you want to see the people who’ve wronged her suffer (and you will, with a little patience). She is so carefully and sensitively written that when I tried the 4th book (as after Larsson’s death, the series was picked up and given another shot) it was all of these barely there shifts and contradictions in her character that put me off. Like asking a great restaurant to have a go at your mom’s rendition of your favourite childhood meal- tasty but just makes you crave the real thing. Mikael is a great contrast to Lis and I warmed to him more than I expected to. Really though, for me it’s about her, and I would hope it’s a joy to you as a reader as well to see her slowly leave her shell and grow more confident and strong and terrifying than you could have hoped.
