After seeing a tiktok go viral about a girl who claimed this book was a 10/10, I was feeling bold and immediately bought the book. And overall, it was a great fantasy romance.
The world-building is intricate with the Hesperines being interesting and Tenebra being a very realistic depiction of its time and setting without the author exploiting the time and place with unnecessary, grotesque encounters/descriptions. The writing is also immaculate and some of the best writing I have encountered in fantasy. The romance is definitely a slow burn, but I loved how unproblematic and healthy the relationship was between the two main characters. They were both very likable and I loved seeing the feelings form for one another and how their loved blossomed into them ultimately growing as people. The steamy scenes were also written well and didn't feel like it was dragging too long nor it was unsubstantial.
The main issue that I ran into was how slowly the book progressed. It was particularly difficult in the beginning when I didn't yet have a connection to the characters or know their motivations, which is only unveiled halfway through the book. But if you don't mind very detailed descriptions, heavy world-building, and a slow-burn romance, I'm sure you will love this as well.
