Surfacing by Kathleen Jamie

5.0

This book consists of three essays: one about a Yup’ik village in Alaska, one about Schotland and one about a monastery in Tibet. All three written from the memory of Jamie herself when she was there to help with archeological excavations. It was beautifully written and especially the first essay about how the indigenous people in Alaska have been treated over the years was really impressive. Also, the last two pages “Voices of the wood.” were just pure poetry.
