God of Pain by Rina Kent
4.0
dark emotional tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

What can I say, Rina Kent has done it again - an unhinged dark romance where you can't help but wish for a HEA, despite all the signs pointing towards the nearest therapist's office rather than a wedding venue.

God of Pain is the second in the Legacy of Gods series and follows Creighton and Annika. Creighton's traumatic past weighs heavily on him and impacts his ability to form normal relationships but that doesn't stop Annika from trying. After the lovely Anni cracks his shell, Creighton soon goes from indifferent to obsessed and his nefarious desires come out to play.

I don't know what it says about me as a person but, so far, I have fallen head over heels with each and every MMC that Rina Kent has written.

YES, Creighton is a red flag. YES, he is wildly unhinged. But you know what? I don't care. 'God of Pain' is extremely accurate because it seems Creigh is the master of sadomasochism and boy, was that an eye-opening experience - the spice in this is absolutely delicious 🥵

Despite that, there are plenty of heartwarming and swoon-worthy moments between Annika & Creighton. Familial and platonic relationships are also a huge part of the LoG series and this carries through into God of Pain.

The story follows a similar flow to other books in the series and was a compelling, addictive read, making it a struggle to put it down.

As with all the LoG books, we're focusing on the same timeline and same characters, just from different POVs - it's always a pleasure to see crossovers from other books in the series and how each couple fits into the overall chain of events.

My only gripe was that I felt like the resolution felt convenient and the conclusion was a bit rushed as a result. Creighton's backstory and the impact it has on the present day, as well as how Annika fits into this, deserved a bit more airtime and I could have easily read another few chapters about them coming to terms with things.

I can't wait to continue my Rina Kent journey with God of Wrath next ✨
