This is a strong book.
But also really ... weird?
Two main plotlines:
1) little girl in a terrible world with magical aspect

2) spanish civil war and terrible abusive man
BOOM
and now that's just there. if you like it or not.
1) is so so sweet, so beautiful while being very guillermo-del-toro-esk
2) is just terrible and drowning and you just want to despair
but you love it.
that's all I can say right after having finished it.
