The Anatomy of Hope: How People Prevail in the Face of Illness by Jerome Groopman

3.0

An interesting informative book about a physician’s growth and learning about hope in medicine. I enjoyed the self reflective nature of this book, regarding the author’s communication style with patients over the years. Since it was published in 2004, some of this information isn’t new and revolutionary for today’s world. But I did enjoy learning about the changes over time. Hope plays a big part in health and well being. Hope can come from the patient, their family/support system, and/or the health care providers. Hope can influence a patient’s outcome. There are a lot of anecdotal stories, which helped to make the information relatable. However, towards the end some of the information became repetitive. Published almost 15 years ago, The Anatomy of Hope is still relevant today and confirms that there’s always a place for hope in medicine and life.
