The Forgetting Moon, Volume 1 by Brian Lee Durfee

I love epic fantasy and this story is definitely that. This book has some tropes that I love including prophecies and chosen ones. There's a castle filled with secret passages and rooms (I could spend an entire book sneaking in these passages). It also includes interesting politics and a huge focus on religion. The reason this book didn't completely work for me was that I felt for as long as the book is we didn't get enough growth of the characters or plot. It leaves off at an intriguing point, so I'm definitely going to continue the series, but I did wish for a bit more from this book.
