Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky

4.0

As a person who is addicted to listening to true crime podcasts and psychological analysis of serial killers podcasts, this book was a treat for me!

"The man who has a conscience suffers whilst acknowledging his sin. That is his punishment."

The more you think about this book, the more you can understand and appreciate its beauty.

I have seen people complaining that the actual murder was just the starting chapters of the book and the rest was Raskolnikov trying to run away from it, but this is the worst way you can summarize this book. The story does not just focus on the crime that was committed but also shows us the complexity of the human mind. Dostoyevsky delves into the depths of human emotions, desires, and motivations.

And it is not just the protagonist who gets all the spotlight, Dostoyevsky shows the turmoil and conflict of each character in the story with utmost precision. The perfect blend of psychology, existentialism, religion and philosophy is what makes this book stand out.

Truly a must-read!
