i went into this expecting it to be all about the feral cats that the author cares for, but it’s as much about the human experience as it is about the kitties. gustafson reflects on what happens to both people and cats when systems fail them. i appreciate gustafson’s frankness, reflection, and humor. many of the stories have open endings because the problems will still exist as long as capitalism does, but that doesn’t stop people from helping each other out and doing their best for little creatures.
