hephaestos 's review for:
Lord of the Flies
by William Golding
I despise this book. I borrowed this book based on the rave reviews it received but everyone's got their own palette and sadly this book wasn't on mine. This was one of those books which took me a really long time to complete (despite having less than 250 pages). It took me close to three weeks to complete this one and that too grudgingly. I felt the story lacked narrative that compels the reader to turn to the next page.
The characters felt like caricatures from a kindergarten school that lacked depth. I understand that the book was published in the 1950s but still am not able to get my head around as to how the kids alone were stranded on the island. Even if I come to the fact that the entire story is mere fiction, I felt that the novel contained a lot of jargon and less story in it. The story comes to this; A group of kids get stranded on an island, though initially they are together the group splits into two as the novel progresses and this creates a rift between the two factions and a couple of accidents take place wherein two kids die. One of the groups starts to diminish in numbers and eventually when only the leader of that group is left and he is being chased by the kids in the other group the kids are saved by the navy.
This book is seriously going into my "I wasted my time on this" list!!!
