One woman's journey hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in the mid-90s and working her way through her grief over her mother's death. Brutally honest and full of adventure. This is one of those books that compels the reader to discover it in one sitting.
It's easy to root for Cheryl to complete her trek even as she discusses aspects of her life that weren't relatable for me (i.e. her recreational drug use and sexual encounters with near strangers). A memoir that is highly readable even if you're not an outdoorsy person. The writing style would appeal to fans of Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.
