Tears of Tess by Pepper Winters
4.0

✨ 4.5 Stars!

I now know why everyone recommends Pepper Winters for dark and twisted romances. As someone who considers herself an avid reader of the genre, I'm starting to think I may not have truly known dark books until now.

Firstly I can completely understand the reviewers who didn't enjoy the contents within this book. It is not for the faint of heart; Pepper Winters doesn't pull any punches or takes shortcuts when dulling out dark, dangerous or twisted. So if you do decide to dive in, I highly suggest you leave your morality behind and go in with the mindset that this is far from conventional, and you will not agree to any of this in the real world, but fictional? It makes for a wicked and wild ride.

Now, maybe I have a few screws loose because I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was riveting to read and seeing how Q and Tess were bound together by their dark sexual desires was addicting to read. I haven't read many books with a sadist/masochist dynamic, but after this, I'm kind of wanting to read more. This didn't feel cheap, or disturbing; it felt pivotal for the story and for the characters.

With a broken hero who needs to inflict pain and a broken heroine who has always seeked a rougher partner—they were made for an imperfectly perfect pair.

MAJOR TRIGGERS—if you have any triggers, this will most likely not be for you. I would highly recommend checking these before picking it up.

Just in case anyone was wondering:
I stopped from giving this 5 stars because it did have its slow moments, and during those I would get a little bored and be tempted to skim to the good parts. Don't let this deter you though, because they do play a part in the overall story and those good parts are worth waiting for.
