Low Town
by Daniel Polansky
Despite some bits which are a bit too 21st century, this was a satisfying grim low fantasy. From the little I've read about street kids, the characterizations of the Warden and Wren seem right on. Add this to the list of fantasy books treating poverty with realism and without too much sentiment, along with J.M. McDermott's Dogsland Trilogy.
