That was GOOD. I read this because I had gotten an arc for Kara McDowell’s upcoming novel, the Prince and the Apocalypse. I loved that so much that I just had to read all of the author’s other works, so this is my second five star book from McDowell.
This book is a retelling of the movie “While You Were Sleeping,” a 90s rom com starring Sandra Bullock. Gemma saves Beau from drowning, but then he falls into a coma. Sometime in the aftermath of this, everyone believes that Gemma is Beau’s girlfriend, even though she isn’t. Her social anxiety doesn’t allow her to clear up this misconception and she just has to go with it. Everyone believes this lie, including Beau’s older brother, Griffin… All while Beau is sleeping, she spends a lot of time with Griff, initially as friends, until they slowly begin to fall for each other. But just before anything can happen, Beau wakes up. And then you’ll have to read the rest to see…
