Just when I thought the story couldn't get better, it does! Yee is such a masterful storyteller, and this will be a joy to read for anyone who loved the first book and/or the Avatar series in general.

This sequel is much more action packed, and social politics become complicated for Kyoshi in her new role as Avatar. Even more complex friendships and personal relationships are masterfully crafted and explored. Kyoshi is pulled apart in multiple directions, and the lines separating morality become blurred. Loyalty, action, and execution become key themes. Political intrigue grows, and there are some really unexpected twists!

We see Kyoshi mature and understand the nuance of her role as Avatar, where justice is not always linear, perfectly delivered, or equitable across time.
