The Prisoner's Throne by Holly Black

adventurous dark emotional mysterious tense fast-paced

4.0

I kind of devoured this book.

Now, I went into it not really remembering a whole lot about the first one, which wasn’t ideal, but this world is so captivating that it drew me back in immediately.
It was a very quick read, fast-paced and only like 250 pages or something which I’m a bit sad about.
I literally never say this, but this could (should) have been longer, it almost felt a bit rushed at times.. Also, it’s just a great series and I would have loved to spend a bit more time with it.

I don’t really think I can talk about the plot without spoiling it because it’s action-packed from the start, so I won’t say anything else about it.

Wren was definitely my favourite character in this series, and I was excited to continue her story. And while I still really liked it, I was also kind of disappointed that the book was written entirely from Oak's POV. The first one was from Wren's POV and I wish that would’ve been continued or that we would have gotten both POVs at least. I did like Oak's POV too, it gave much insight to his character, but I just felt that the story was missing Wrens voice..

Other than that, it was great! Holly Black is just so good at writing complex characters. Like there are so many characters in this and not one is boring or just a copy of someone else, they all have their own unique personality and voice.

I’m not sure if this series ended with this book, if it is over than I think it’s a fitting way to end it, but I also think there is room for another book which I would be very happy to read because I had a great time with this!
