Without Merit by Colleen Hoover
3.0

3.5 stars. I struggle with how to rate this because there are some things I really loved about it: the setting, Merit’s house, her family situation. Everything happening in the first half of this book borders on absurd, and I was just rolling with it because it was funny how ridiculous it was and seemed intentional. And then around halfway when the big serious thing (no spoilers) involving Merit’s letter happens, the whole book got serious. And I just couldn’t take the absurdity seriously. There were a lot of misunderstandings between the characters. And the dog thing at the end? Did not ring true for me. I will remember Merit for a while but this story was so chaotic.
