🌊 The Old Man and the Sea was a huge success for Hemingway and it's one of his finest works that won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954.
🎣 It was a very short read but excessively detailed and slow which made it a little difficult for me to get through. The book is majorly about the old man Santiago trying to catch a fish which he hooked and how he survived days at the sea alone while chasing the hooked fish and trying to get it on his boat.
🌊 First I thought that there's not much to this story, that it's only about an old man who is just trying to catch a fish and make some money but no it wasn't only about the old man. Hemingway was notably obsessed with the idea of men demonstrating their worth by facing and conquering natural hardships and that's what he tried to show from this book.
🎣 When the old man catches a marlin that is bigger than his boat, he is put to the test as he works the fishing line with bleeding hands to bring it sufficiently close to harpoon. Santiago's struggle shows the potential of human spirit to withstand hardships and sufferings in order to succeed and also that success doesn't always comes as what you hoped for and sometimes you also fail but still gain something from it.
🌊 Overall a nice short read, a little dragging but still good. Recommended to people who enjoy classics and short reads that reflects on life.
