The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord
4.0

I quickly picked this up after reading The Start of Me and You and finally got around to reading it. Emery is brilliant at writing characters and enabling their progression. I wasn't very keen on Lucy to begin with and wasn't that impressed with Lukas but by the end I enjoyed her character and was pleased with the way she had grown throughout the novel. The book covers abuse, transphobia, homophobia, grief, illness, teenage pregnancy, summer camp, self-harm, race and faith. I really do believe that you read the book you need when you most need it and this was one of those for me. It's another beautifully written and heartwarming book.
