This was a fun retelling of Swan Lake with sapphic rep and lots of atmospheric writing and elaborate details.
The mystery was intriguing and had me guessing for a bit. I don't know Swan Lake very much at all myself, but I think this was probably a creative twist on it with its own lore and magic.
I think I would've liked a little more interaction between Odile and Marie in the beginning, but it does build on through the book and they have some great moments later in. I also really liked the two side characters – the Dauphin and Odile's brother – and wouldn't have minded a little bit more of them.
I admittedly did not love this as much as I liked where the dark stand still. I think there was something more whimsical about the magic and that book that was missing for me in this one, but I definitely still enjoyed it and it was a pretty fast pace read for me.
Overall, it's a very solid YA fantasy and I think a lot of readers will enjoy it.
