The Snowman by Jo Nesbø
3.0

A fairly standard but well-executed thriller.

I enjoyed the creepy Snowman motif and the distinctively Scandinavian setting, with its dense snowy forests and high ski slopes.

As a mystery, it is pretty basic; a number of red herrings and a standard 'it-was-the-doctor' resolution. The deduction was fairly sub-par, with the detectives constantly behind the ball. As a thriller, it was pretty engaging, and I finished this in more or less two sittings.

The plot centers around a misogynistic murderer who murders to kill 'whores'. As a motive, it is pretty histrionic, and fairly uninteresting woman-hating. The murderer's cold-blooded planning and execution makes up for the weakness of his motivations.
