Locked in Love by Dana Isaly

2.0

i have read all of the Nick and Holly books, and let’s just say that these deserve jail time.

in the first book, Nick and Holly meet a few days before christmas. Holly finds out her boyfriend of 5 years has been cheating on her for the past two years and he breaks up with her in a bar in front of all his friends. the owner of the bar, Nick, sees this vulnerable 25-year-old woman and tells her that he can help make her now ex jealous. this man is 50 years old, by the way, HALF her age. he has no business sticking his nose in a vulnerable young girl’s life. anyway, naturally, they fall in love in the first book and it’s just a short christmas-themed romance.

the second book is set during valentine’s day, not quite two months after Nick and Holly met. he asks her to move in with him and he wants her to meet HIS KIDS. yes, his kids that are 7 years or less younger than her. it is a little weird, however, that they have not been mentioned until this point, especially since his youngest is 18 and a senior in high school… you’d think he would still be fathering her but ig she lives with her mom, which is kind of a red flag if she doesn’t want to visit her dad. however, despite the weird age differences of everyone, at the end of the book, he decides to pick out a ring for holly to propose soon.

the third book is set in June, roughly 6 months after Nick and Holly met. it isn’t specified when exactly they made it official between them, probably somewhere in the second book, so they have been dating probably around 4 months at this point. in the third book they are in vacation in Mexico and that is where Nick decides to propose to her with the ring his daughter helped pick out for Holly. of course, she says yes. but another revelation has occurred to me that Holly brings absolutely nothing to the table. he does pretty much everything for her. she pretty much just acts like another one of his children which disgusts me.

in the fourth book, they celebrate Nick’s birthday in his vacation cabin. it starts out with them leaving for the cabin and they get into their first fight as a couple of less than 8 months. what they fought over was rlly ridiculous so of course they work it out to show that they are a mature couple that can withstand anything thrown at them. in the middle of the book, they stop by a cafe, cuddling with each other while they eat. she says, “I wonder if people think you’re my dad.” and she didn’t seem weirded out by that fact…. anyway in this book, Holly gets to know Nick’s kids a tad bit more and from the one chapter they’re in, i have concluded that they act more mature and older than Holly does, and they are 18 and 20.

in the final book, nick and holly get married after one total year of knowing each other. and that’s all i have to say about that one.

in conclusion, this couple is most likely doomed and i rate this whole series a whopping 2 stars.
