I can see why this is such a children's classic. Wonderfully imaginative, well written and entertaining. Dahl doesn't talk down to kids but he sure has some opinions he wants to share. Televisions no 1 hater lol.
Charlie is written as particularly sympathetic which really makes you root for him - great empathy builder for kids. Liked the way the other kids aren't solely blamed for their behaviour but the parents pointed to as part of the problem. The main lesson that good behaviour has it's reward could be seen in a negative light if you take it as solely children should do what adults say, but the good behaviour here is really just consideration for others vs abject selfishness and outright entitlement.
The illustrations by Quentin Blake are delightful and so recognisable. A fun book for kids and adults alike.
