The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King by Carissa Broadbent

3.0

I loved Rhain and Oraya and am sad to be leaving them behind! the plot of the story kept me engaged overall and I still really liked the world building. however I do feel like this sequel was lacking in some tension/emotional oomph, and despite this being the only book i’m reading right now, I think I would struggle to summarize it. i have found that I tend to struggle through wartime books (like acowar) when there isn’t a real driving force (like the Kejari). I do have a few unresolved questions about the magic (SPOILER: like now that Rhain and Oraya have the coriatis bond, is she full vampire/immortal? her blood is still red so I think not, but the way the bond was described with respect to Vincent made it sound like she would be?) but perhaps those will be answered in subsequent books…
