The Cruelest Mercy
by Natalie Mae
Zahru survived the Crossing only to find her town destroyed. Thankfully, most were evacuated and her father and friends are alive. Jet has asked her to be one of his advisors and has found positions in the palace for her family. Jet is about to be crowned King, but Kasta, who they thought was dead, interrupts the ceremony claiming that he is the true god-chosen marked King. His mark is proven to be real, but there's one problem - Zahru has the exact same mark. It is declared that Zahru and Kasta must spend the next moon working together to accomplish tasks. If one of them fails, they will immediately be demoted to advisor, but if they succeed, they will rule together. Zahru is less than thrilled with this as Kasta stabbed her during the Crossing. She, Jet, and their friends set out to prove that Kasta is not who he says he is, but what will this endeavor cost her? Will she learn to use Influence, her new god-given power, or will it overwhelm her completely? Zahru learns exactly what she will do to get what she wants.
