An American 1970s tour-de-force of the individual aspects that make up the reality and the quality in the all. From the importance of motorcycle maintenance, to picking apart the intricacies of ancient Greek philosophy, and how life feels drastically different in inland America as opposed to the coasts, Robert M. Pirsig paints a detailed picture of his life, how he derives his personal philosophy through life and word, and demonstrates where others can follow in his footsteps. Taking a step back from a dense book that aims to chop up the definition of quality while also telling two life stories simultaneously, every word, sentence, scene, and night is put in place distinctly and precisely. Pirsig has seen the ups and downs of human life up close and personal for decades, living twentieth century life to a tee and brings a magnifying glass back to a simpler time in American culture. This book is exactly what I have always wanted to do in terms of see the country and let my mind be one with the surroundings. Let him and the motorcycle guide you through a new way of seeing life and you won’t regret it.
