Verity by Colleen Hoover is a compulsively readable romantic suspense novel. I listened to the audiobook, which clocks in at a little over eight hours and is narrated by Vanessa Johansson and Amy Landon. If you have an Audible Plus membership, it's included through the end of October 2022.

This is my first read by the author, and I've heard so many different things about CoHo. Some people love her books, some people hate them. I think she included a self-reference in this book:

"I'd trolled Verity's reviews before coming here, and in nine out of ten of them, the reviewer referenced wanting to throw their kindles or books across the room."

This book starts out dark, and gets even darker as you keep reading. The content is pretty rough for various reasons. Check the content warnings before you pick this one up. My jaw literally dropped several times throughout this book. It's laid out in a frame story, and the internal story is a bit trauma porn with a side dish of erotica.

Hoover's prose flows very well, and I think she's fairly skilled as a writer. She is particularly good at putting a hook at the end of a chapter that makes you want to read the next one as soon as possible. I call this style of writing potato chip prose. Once you pop, you can't stop, you know? It's easy to see why her books are so popular.

By the end of the book, a few of my theories were correct, so I felt very vindicated.
