Consort's Glory by Abigail Kelly

Did not finish book. Stopped at 29%.
This book was pissing me off. First of all, FMC does not make sense. She has 0 survival instincts, it seems. Elves ate witches for breakfast in the past so why on earth would she go to Elven city or whatever that place was. Supposedly she wanted to see how elves live since she is dying anyway but she still tries to make herself safe by warding her room. What does not make sense is that she is actively avoiding danger only when the book does not rely on her putting herself in dangerous situation to be close to MMC. Additionally, she does not stand her ground when it comes to MMC, but with everyone else she is stubborn and assured. There is no consistency. What annoyed me the most was her telling MMC twice to stop touching her and him ignoring her and her being okay with that. He is constantly invading her personal space and testing her boundaries. We are told that he would do anything for her, yet basically intimidated her into staying at his place. What?

Then there is the whole thing with mates. MMC says that FMC is his mate and has tangible proof of it, yet FMC does not think so because something should have clicked within her the moment they met face to face and it didn't happen. She is 25 year old and avoided any physical closure with anyone else because apparently being with her is dangerous. In what way, I don't know, didn't have patience to find out. But what I don't understand is if she is searching for her bonded and she knows that MMC is not him, why does she allow him to be so touchy-feely with her? Why does she not avoid being in his proximity if she knows it affects her so much? What makes him so special?

This book is a mess. The characters are not consistent. We are supposed to believe that FMC is a strong witch, yet in 29% that was never showcased. Not even once. She mostly comes off as an insecure, depressed teenager who can't fend for herself. She's has two months or so to find her mate to NOT DIE yet she decides to research elves?
