Lost Horizon by James Hilton
5.0
Up in the mountains of Tibet is a secret monastery with 50 or so monks that practice a certain philosophy of moderation: moderately exercised, moderately interested, moderately truthful.
In doing so they create a version of utopia I found both realistic and genuinely appealing.
Hilton narrates the experiences of the main character with a delicate touch, somehow able to make poetic remarks about life as if he himself were one of those ageless monks observing the frantic hurriedness of the world from afar.
