Plot wise this book isn’t anything new a very standard YA fantasy  plot line and the villain at the end was kinda hard to take seriously. The end overall felt rushed got a bit too cheesy for my taste. I did enjoy the politically driven storyline and even though it was very cliche it kept me engaged throughout.

The main love story is the shining star of this book and was so endearing and sweet and felt so satisfying to read a wlw YA Fantasy novel surrounding their love. I thought the relationship between the two girls was actually very well developed and really enjoyable. It was a light and fluffy sapphic read which was exactly what I was looking for. This was the type of book middle school me needed when I was going through my YA fantasy phase and didn’t see any main relationships with two girls at the center.

That being said despite its flaws and the fact that my tastes have obviously changed since middle school I still found myself loving this book on a personal enjoyment cheesy romance adventure level so if that’s what you’re looking for I highly recommend it!
