Why did I read this book? It's well outside my wheelhouse. And yet, it just appealed. The title is great. I sort of like the idea of looking at life through this different perspective - the view of a man who thinks all the time about the potential for violence and how to counter it. It could be a gun nut book, and I've no doubt he's one of those, but the bulk of the text is much more about preparedness, risk assessment, and the controlled use of hand to hand combat. I've been thinking about this quite a bit lately as I get older and feel more vulnerable to other people's aggression, so maybe it was just the right time for the book.
Well, if that sounds awful, skip this book, but if you've never thought about it before and you fancy something a bit different, it's a pretty well-written introduction to the world of pulling people's arms out of their sockets, throwing them around and smashing their faces in.
