Kid Gloves: Nine Months of Careful Chaos
by Lucy Knisley
I'm a big fan of Lucy Knisley's autobiographical graphic novels (autobioGRAPHICal novels, perhaps?). I pre-ordered this one, about her first experiences with pregnancy, because -- SURPRISE -- I am also pregnant, so this was of special interest.
It did not disappoint. I suspect every pregnant woman loves to hear stories about other women's pregnancy symptoms, because either it feels like sisterhood and sympathy (someone ELSE had this symptom! I'm not alone!) OR it feels like reassurance that however much trouble you're having, it could be worse, so be grateful. And boy did I feel grateful by the end of this book!
Lucy is one of those authors who's so real in her writing that I (unfairly) believe that we're basically already friends IRL.
Maybe the best recommendation I can give for this particular book, though, is that I immediately made my partner read it.
