The Awakening of Malcolm X by Tiffany D. Jackson, Ilyasah Shabazz

2.0

I disregarded the title of this book and I shouldn't have. I read the autobiography of Malcolm X in middle school and it stuck with me. I assumed this would allow me to revisit that book, with a YA bend. I was most interested in Malcolm's life after prison.

The book dealt more with the lead up to those years - his life before and during his time in prison. That's not what I was looking for, though it's right there on the cover and delivered as promised.

Listening to the book was slightly disorienting with the time jumps between his life before prison and while incarcerated, but the feeling didn't last too long.

I could see this as a companion piece to the autobiography.
