The Pledge by Friedrich Dürrenmatt

4.0

3.5 stars. This was an enthralling crime novel that skewers the typical outcomes of a crime novel. Despite knowing what the author was up to (he makes it very plain early on), the ending was still disappointing; the reader is forced to read through the ramblings of an old woman to get the answer he already knows. It just seems a bit shabby and poorly executed- even if that is the point.
