Swimming in the Dark by Tomasz Jedrowski
4.0

“And yet, it occurs to me now that we never run with our lies indefinitely. Sooner or later we are forced to confront their darkness. We can choose the when, not the if, and the longer we wait, the more painful and uncertain it will be.”

A powerful book about love and the painful circumstances that prevent it from flourishing. The political violence and turmoil of 20th century Poland shape the romantic relationship between two young men recently graduated from college. The story is sad, but there are moments of beauty and passion and excitement that capture the newness of love. I listened on audible and the narrator was excellent.
