Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey

3.0

Listened to McConaughey read his own book on Audible, which, after the fact, feels like the only acceptable way to experience this book.

I'd recommend it for fans of Matthew McConaughey. I'm not sure how interesting or helpful it would be to non-fans? I was trying to explain to my husband, it's more of a philosophical guide to living your best life (peppered with examples, of course), as opposed to a juicy memoir/autobiography. It's not NOT an autobiography, but it proposes to be more.

So, hubs asked me what the big takeaways were. I spewed a list of sentiments like "live your best life now," "figure out who you are and what you want out of life, and then BE that and DO that," "don't be afraid to go after what you really want," etc. It's not revolutionary, but it's solid advice. And it did make me want to take the bull by the horns a little more.

It was an enjoyable listen. I mean, how could you not enjoy listening to Matthew McConaughey talk about his life? I can't tell if the man is brilliant or crazy. I think both. I'm glad I didn't buy a hardcover copy, but I'm also glad I used my free audible credit on this.
