My official goodbye to the Green Bone Saga until I do a reread, or Fonda Lee decides to write something else (by the gods, please!).
Although I wouldn't say it was necessary, this prequel-novella was a nice addition to the series focusing on the Green Bones whose work in the shadows make the magic system possible, and the people who often work with them: the Abukei, resistant to the effects of jade.
In a fantasy-mystery with precious cameos by beloved characters, Fonda Lee not only expands the worldbuilding a little bit more, but also continues the commentary on prejudice, discrimination and racial violence through the lens of the Green Bone Society started in Jade Legacy.
A must read for the Kekon die-hards.
