Tbh if there was no mention of the town, I’d have thought this was just another installment of the Love in O’Leary series. I absolutely adored Micah and Constantine, which seems to be the only reason I vaguely remembered who tf Mason was.

I am an absolute fan of the GFY trope, but this was a fucking mess imo. Honestly, until Beale mentioned it, I assumed Fenn was another irrational person, and not a broken and traumatized person. Once I got it, I kinda sympathized, but it wasn’t enough to salvage a story I completely found absolutely infuriating.

Everyone in this family took it upon themselves to misunderstand even the smallest conversations, turning simple statements into mountains of resentment. I particularly loathe Big Rafe for this.

The way the treasure was found was disappointingly anticlimactic, since I had expected the book to involve at least some treasure hunting - not just stories about it. Which reminds me, gold bars are freaking heavy - no way those sailors swam with a whole chest tied around the waist in a STORM (Honestly, this irked me the most. I hate when science flies out the window).
