My Friends
by Fredrik Backman
Oh yeah I’ve missed his writing, he’s definitely a favorite author for sure and I can’t wait to get to Beartown. This felt like The Fault in Our Stars meets The Goldfinch and I liked that. His writing is so unique and I think that’s due to him being Swedish and how the translation to English comes across, it’s so quippy and full of jokes mixed with the most profound, heartbreaking sentences you’ve ever read. As much as I like his writing style, I also wish we would’ve gotten more details on like the setting and the actual physical locations, but I know his style is entirely character-driven and I do enjoy that. I enjoyed Ted and Louisa’s dynamic and the parental relationship that developed between them, but I definitely liked diving into the four teenagers lives and their backstories even though it ripped my heart out and made me so anxious.
