Ex Machina: The Deluxe Edition, Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan

4.0

Really excited to see where this series goes. This first volume does a fantastic job of setting up the tone - a mix of superhero action and political drama - and the characters (Mitchell Hundred might be most unique protagonist Vaughan has ever written), but a poor job setting up what the core narrative will be over the rest of the volumes. Still, it's wonderfully drawn (the splash panel of the remaining tower of the World Trade Center took my breath away) dialogue is great, and the world is interesting and compelling, so I'll be continuing the series soon.
