I enjoyed this one! The mix of poetry and simple sentences work really well as an approachable, mixed media title for young readers. The chapters are short and self contained, the plot points run the gambit between the end of a fun and exciting event to the devastating loss of something near and dear to you.

Food is a topic everyone has an opinion on. It's an integral part of this story that shapes not just the characters and how they interact and experience their world, but how readers react and interact with the story. By circling around food, the characters are able to set aside the vast differences their lived history and culture set int hem, and discover a new way of expressing themselves that can be shared with their community.

This book's melding of cultures, recipes, poetry, and delicious description make it a great read
