Fool Me Once by Katee Robert

5.0

No lie, I postponed reading this book because I wasn't looking forward to it. Which didn't make sense because *this* is my trope. Enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, forced to lean on each other, I am HERE for it.

We met Aubry and Quinn in the previous book and I immediately loved Quinn. I enjoy people who poke and tease, it's such a wonderful dynamic to see. And while I enjoyed Aubry's humor in the first one, I wasn't looking forward to a rehashing of the surely, sarcastic woman slowly opening her heart and revealing someone gentle and vulnerable for the man to swoop in and save.

Only, it didn't quite happen that way? Yes, we got to see Aubry open up. Yes, Quinn's feelings grew to where he wanted to protect her from his asshole family, but she never lost her sarcasm and Quinn never stopped teasing. Which was WONDERFUL. I really loved that part.

And the SMUT. I loved the smut in this book more than the first! I could see a few things that fit other Robert books (the exhibitionism in Your Dad Will Do, for one), but it still felt like they were who they were. I wasn't reading a repeat of characters, only a shared kink, and I really enjoyed how it fit them.

The grovel was top tier in this book. Mostly because both characters owed a grovel and both brought their A game and the epilogue is one of the best epilogues I've ever read, hands down. I absolutely adored how both of these characters grew through the story while still remaining true to themselves and learning how to shift their lives around to fit the other. By the end of the book, you can just see how they work and it was wonderful to watch.

Love it, 10/10 recommend, had a freaking blast reading this book.
