Our Italian Summer by Jennifer Probst

  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? No

3.0

I almost gave up on this book because Frannie was so incredibly unlikable. Her comments early on about having to have a baby by 30 because she didn't want to be an old mom were highly insensitive. It'd would be one thing if the author went deeper into that sentiment for character development, but it was just a couple sentences that I found very appalling and no further development. Then in Italy all the comments about what she wouldn't eat. I think Allegra also had a negative comment about her own body. It was all very surface level and had such comments been used for better character development, it wouldn't have been such a turn off.

Stuck with it because I rarely DNF a book and I was hoping it'd turn around.  Also loved the Italy setting, even though some of the descriptions were not entirely accurate. It did turn around at the end and is an OK light read.
