The Rejected Writers' Book Club by Suzanne Kelman
5.0
I thoroughly enjoyed The Rejected Writers Club by Suzanne Kelman form the beginning until the last word on the last page. Ms. Kelman has written a wonderful quirky and very funny novel about a group of odd and eccentric writers who collect rejection letters. They are well on their way to their goal of 500 letters when Doris, one of the leaders of the group, receives an acceptance letter for her book. This puts the entire group in jeopardy. What follows is a hilarious, madcap road trip to San Francisco to return the acceptance letter. The situations they find themselves in along the way and the odd characters they meet make the journey extremely entertaining as each roadblock adds to the story. I enjoyed the changes in the lead character, Janet, who is one of the towns librarians, from an outsider to a fully quirky member of the group. I also enjoyed how each character, even with their differences, were supportive of each other without question. If you are looking for a funny entertaining light read about friendship set within an unusual group of individuals this is the book for you. Just watch out for where you read it because laughing out loud can get you some unusual stares.
I received this book from NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing in return for a fair review.
