The One That Got Away by Bethany Chase

2.0

I wanted to like this book more than I did. The premise is nothing new -- the one who got away comes back after X number of years, what happens now? -- but I like them. Either the main character realizes how happy she is with the choices she's made since the one who got away went away or she totally uproots her life (sometimes getting together with the lost love, sometimes not) to be happier than she thought she was.

In this case, though, the ending left me feeling blah. I found it hard to believe that Sarina is a professional in her late 20s/early 30s because she acts more like someone just out of college. I also found it hard to believe that she can sleep with Eamon, never hear from him again (I'm not giving anything away; that's practically the book blurb), and still continue to live with Danny, her roommate and Eamon's buddy. Conflict of interest much?

Then there's Noah; Sarina's boyfriend who is perfect except he isn't. And he's conveniently out of the country when Eamon moves back to Austin, which makes it very easy for Sarina to question the relationship.

It started strong, got dull in the middle and toward the end I just wanted everyone to walk away.
