101 Essays That Will Change the Way You Think
by Brianna Wiest
reflective
slow-paced
If you already like/respect this author and want her opinion on things, get this book and read it a chapter at a time as the topics seem interesting/relevant. Otherwise, don’t read this.
A stream consciousness of all my thoughts:
It’s repetitive
It was written for people who are just like the author (white, privileged women)
She strongly believes pain/suffering (she has a whole section on how these are different to her, but I can’t remember how) serve a purpose in your life
She never really mentions the systemic challenges people face to living the life they wantShe’s does says certain things are a privilege, but she also says that if you don’t have something you used to want it means you don’t want it anymore. Which can def be true, but does ignore the very real systemic barriers people face to actualizing their dreams
It was very weird abt mental health. She’d like acknowledge mental illness in one sentence and then in the next be like basically get over it? I don’t know it made me uncomfortable the whole time, but I never really had a strong grasp on how she felt
