A Betrayed Kind Of Love by Adesuwa O’man Nwokedi (3rd book in the Malomo High Reunion Series)
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!
Just a few chapters into this book, I knew it was going to be a 5-star read. I was in a reading slump for almost a week and then I decided to pick this up because every book I’ve written by the author has been a hit and she didn’t disappoint with this one too. I believe in Adesuwa’s government !😍.
In A Betrayed Kind Of Love, we are introduced to two lovers turned sworn enemies. Bonju is your typical ladies man. After finishing from Malomo High, he went on and finished with a first-class from a university in England. He is super rich and everything seems to be going well for him but he is still haunted by some of his actions from the past two decades.
Alero is a woman who has sworn off love. After suffering from heartbreak more than two decades ago, she has decided to throw herself into her business and keep romantic love at bay. When Alero and Bonju meet at the Malomo High Reunion, she is determined to take her pound of flesh but she will soon realize that there’s a thin line between hatred….and love.
I think this might just be my favorite book of the series😍. I absolutely love the music references and how music was a huge catalyst in their love story. It just goes to show that a lot of things that people might consider mundane actually brings two people together. As a music girlie, this was so exciting for me.
The fact that I still got insight into how the other couples from the first two books in the series are faring blows my mind! Even some characters from her other books made cameos in this book and it just felt like reuniting with my friends. This reminds me of TJR’s characters and I love it so much 😍❤️.
Characters whom we are still going to meet in other books in the series have been introduced in this book and we got the backstories of some of them. This is why Bonju and Alero already felt like people I knew when I started reading their story because they had been introduced in book 1 and 2. This made me think of Yaa Gyasi’s Homegoing. Weaving the backstories of characters in other books before we get to meet them in their own books is an insane skill. It’s nothing short of phenomenal!
I love the fact that this book emphasizes the importance of properly healing before getting into another relationship or we stand the risk of bleeding on people who didn’t cut us. It's also okay to not immediately forgive people who have hurt us. I’m glad that Bonju finally understood that asking for forgiveness doesn’t mean you should be forgiven.
The importance of setting healthy boundaries with the people we love cannot be overemphasized. Omere did all the annoying and disgusting things she did because she knew her son wasn’t going to do anything about it. I actually screamed a few times for her to go outside and touch grass 😂😩. For the record, she is one of the author’s characters that I absolutely detest but no one can take Obehi’s place. She still has the record for overall best in wickedness.
There’s still so much to say but I don’t want to drop spoilers. I want y’all to go into this beautiful book blind. I want y’all to experience this book that kept me up until 2 am. I want y’all to read these 536 pages of goodness that I devoured in 2 days❤️. I think I’ve already said it before but let me say it again; I’ll read anything Adesuwa writes. Even if she scribbles on a book that’s over 500 pages, I’ll read it🙈❤️.
