One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus

3.0

One of Us Is Lying is a mix between The Breakfast Club and Gossip Girl with an added murder mystery.

A group of 5 students arrive at detention for the same reasons and they all believe they have been set up. When a car accident happens outside of the school the 5 students are left on their own whilst their teacher goes outside to help. One of the students minutes after starts having an allergic reaction, Simon is allergic to nuts but he has just had a drink of water. When emergency help arrives it is already too late and only 4 students leave detention alive.

When police start to investigate they find that the cup Simon was drinking from had earlier been smothered in peanut oil and they are now on the hunt to find Simons murderer and the only plausible suspects are the last 4 students left in that detention room.

We find out during the story that Simon was hated by many as he had a website that was dedicated to finding out people's secrets and telling them to the world. Simon even uses initials in his posts rather than the names of the victims just like Gossip Girl.

I really enjoyed reading this mystery, I enjoyed reading about all of the characters and finding out details little by little as the story goes on. I would recommend this to anybody who loves a thriller, a great read for young adults.
