5.0

I recently read Educated by Tara Westover and was completely blown away; it was one of the most compelling, emotional and inspiring books read in a while.

Tara's story is so powerful, and her writing is so raw and honest that it is impossible to not feel connected to her story. I found myself completely engrossed in her journey and the struggles she faced.

Tara grew up in a deeply religious, fundamentalist family in rural Idaho, and she had no formal education. Despite this, she was determined to pursue an education and discover the world outside of her sheltered upbringing. Her journey is inspiring and heart-wrenching, and I found myself in tears at (a lot of) times.

Through her story, Westover shows the power of determination and a thirst for knowledge. Her journey is one of courage and resilience in the face of extreme adversity and she paints a vivid picture of the struggles she faced. Her writing is beautiful and her wit and intelligence shine through on every page. I highly recommend Educated for anyone who wants to be inspired by a story of resilience and hope. It is also a testament to the power of family and the strength of our relationships— and that sometimes, this “power and strength” refer to the chokehold that connection has on us in the most nefarious way. And that despite that reality,  one can overcome challenges through the love and support of a chosen community. Ultimately, it's a story of finding yourself and your own voice, and of never giving up.
