Deacon James is a musician. His dad just died, and he's on his way to play a gig they booked before his death.
PI John Persons is trying convince Deacon that there is a seed of chaos in his brain, sand of it keeps growing, it will end the world. Deacon is not convinced.
Like the previous book, Hammers on Bone, Khaw weaves a wicked web of lovecraftian horror around the characters. This book is a variation on a theme. It's infused with music, and it's stakes are way higher.
Khaw does an amazing job anchoring Deacon in his grief. the first three chapters articulated my grief so well, I will probably never forget them. The ending is exquisite, and I loved this little Novella.
